HRH The Duke of York, KG.

His Royal Highness The Duke of York, KG is the President of ALVA.

His Royal Highness undertakes a number of engagements every year in support of ALVA; from visiting and meeting members, attending events and conferences, hosting meetings at Buckingham Palace and initiating discussions on issues relevant to ALVA members and the wider tourism, heritage and attractions economy.

The Duke of York is the second son and the third child of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and was born on 19th February 1960 at Buckingham Palace. HRH is the first child to be born to a reigning monarch for 103 years and is fifth in line to the throne of the UK and fifteen other Commonwealth realms.

Named Andrew Albert Christian Edward, he was titled The Prince Andrew until his marriage, when he was created The Duke of York, The Earl of Inverness and The Baron Killyleagh.

The Duke attended Heatherdown School and Gordonstoun School and then joined the Royal Navy in 1979 as a Seaman Officer and a Pilot. HRH served in the Royal Navy for 22 years, seeing active service in the Falklands campaign and Commanding HMS COTTESMORE. The Duke left the Royal Navy in 2001 to become a full-time working member of the Royal Family, in support of Her Majesty The Queen.

HRH?s focus is on assisting the economic success of, and the creation of skilled jobs in, the United Kingdom. The Duke concentrates his efforts on three core areas where he believes he can have the greatest impact:

? Science and Engineering
? Entrepreneurs and SMEs

HRH also supports many charitable and not-for-profit organisations and maintains close links with the Military.
