'Downton Abbey: The Exhibition' launches in Singapore, with world tour to follow

A newly created exhibition that brings the world of hit British series Downton Abbey to life is about to debut at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Downton Abbey: The Exhibition, a project by NBCUniversal International Studios and Imagine Exhibitions, promises to immerse guests in the world of the post-Edwardian period drama that captured the imaginations of millions of viewers across the world.

During the tour, visitors will explore the stately home of Downton Abbey, engaging with the show’s well-loved characters – such as Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith, who play Robert Crawley and Violet Crawley, respectively – witnessing unseen footage and getting close to the costumes and props that defined the show.

The exhibition opens on 17 June, and a five-year multi-continental tour will follow, including locations in the US.

“Seen in more than 250 territories, Downton Abbey is a global phenomenon and viewers all around the world continue to ask for more,” said Michael Edelstein, president of NBCUniversal International Studios. “Downton Abbey: The Exhibition allows this incredible legacy to live on by offering a multi-million-dollar, museum-quality experience that will delight fans, ultimately extending the connection they have with Downton’s compelling characters and storylines.”

Downton Abbey was well known for achieving the highest levels of authenticity and detail – down to the tiniest mannerisms of the characters. The drama was set during World War I and the post-war years and, like the TV show, a team of expert advisors has been involved in ensuring the experience is as historically accurate as possible.

The Carnival Films production, which was was written and created by Julian Fellowes, is the most nominated non-US show in the history of the Emmys with 69 nominations.

Grant Leisure and Mather & Co worked closely on the project.
